Education
Hanover College, founded in 1827, is the oldest private college in Indiana and is consistently ranked among the top private liberal arts college in the country. Through the Center for Business Preparation, college students engage in internships that benefit both the community and students. Hanover College also offers a wide array of athletic and cultural events to the community.
Madison's Ivy Tech Community College offers traditional college courses and has an extensive offering of programs tailored to meet the needs of local business and industry. Accelerated Certified Training is provided by the Workforce and Economic Development department at Ivy Tech Community College. Employers can choose prepackaged programs or let us help them customize training that targets the specific needs of their business.
Jefferson County is served by three K-12 school corporations: Madison Consolidated Schools, Southwestern Schools, and Prince of Peace Schools.
Health Care
The King’s Daughters’ Hospital and Health Services has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® by Thomson Healthcare, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. The award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, financial performance, and efficiency. The 2007 Thomson 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success study appears in the March 17 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine. A total of 3,018 hospitals were included in the study, which awards hospitals in five categories: Major Teaching, Teaching, Large Community, Medium Community, and Small Community. King’s Daughters’ was one of 981 hospitals compared in the Small Community category. The King's Daughters' Hospital and Health Services provides healthcare for families in eight counties throughout southeast Indiana and parts of northern Kentucky. Much more than an acute-care hospital, King's Daughters' offers both physician services and many outpatient care programs.
In addition to the modern hospital in Madison, King's Daughters' supports a Cancer Treatment Center, a Rehabilitation Center, Home Care Services, the Diabetes Care Center, a Pain Management Clinic, and a Wound Care Center. All physicians are Board Certified and maintain both outstanding personal and professional standards. Specialties range from Family Practice to Obstetrics to Surgery and Internal Medicine.
